How to Develop Motor Skills in Preschoolers
We all know that children use their sense of touch or tactile sense to explore their environment meaning they touch and feel by using their hands to learn about new materials. By developing good hand skills and other pre-writing skills will prepare the child for the next step, which is writing. Working on hand skills will also assist older children who are experiencing writing difficulties.
Medhaam preschool & daycare, through its pre-nursery , nursery and  kindergarten programspays special attention to motor development.
Pre writing skills are taught through various fine motor activities like sorting, picking, sequencing, painting ,  arranging, holding crayons while scribbling, eating with spoons/forks, buttoning and zipping clothes as they help in strengthening both fine & gross motor skills.
Children need regular practice to strengthen their pincer grip to develop pre-writing skills.

We've gathered ten ways to help your child develop their fine motor skills. Check them out here.

Pre-school or kindergarten children can learn these 10 fine motor skills efficiently; these are also beneficial and necessary for younger and older children. It is simple and fun for parents and teachers of Medhaam preschool & daycare to help their children improve their fine motor skills. Here are some easy yet appealing activities for toddlers that help develop fine motor skills.

1. Playing with balls of different sizes, jumping ropes, running at different speeds, pedaling with riding toys, pushing strollers or brooms, filling and emptying buckets, and climbing in various directions develop gross motor skills. The trainers at pre preschool can improve a child's coordination when moving their arms and legs.

2. One of the best materials to work on hand-eye coordination is different kinds of PomPoms. They may require small actions to hold, pick up, and move.

3. Play with clay in various shapes and sizes using a few plastic tools or molds such as scissors, animal/fruits/vegetable shapes, or cookie cutters. Include puzzles with knobs and handles of variable sizes.

4. Encourage children to turn the pages of a book. It is also an excellent opportunity to develop fine motor skills. Board books are appropriate for very young children as the pages are well-crafted and easier to handle.

5. A kid in preschool or kindergarten needs a lot of attention to glide the clip across a piece of paper. Therefore, we recommend including Paper Clips as they are great for finger movements and manipulation.

6. Encourage the child to take off the stickers! If that part of the piece is problematic, you can eliminate it. With Kitchen Tongs, you can also improve hand strength and control.

7. The process of drawing and painting helps the child develop fine motor skills, creativity, and imagination. You can use crayons, chalk, finger paints, brush painting, or charcoal to stimulate their interest and improve hand-eye coordination.

8. It is not only fun to fill and pour out cups, but it also improves sensory skills. Instead of spoons and molds, you can use kinetic sand. Add a few drops of food coloring to two glasses of water. Kids can now mix colorful water with an eye dropper in empty glasses.

9. Children's motor development may benefit from brushing their teeth, which is a difficult task for young children in pre-school. However, doing so will enhance their fine motor skills. The game can also strengthen your hands and forearms as well as develop your fine motor skills.

10. Water Play  by Pouring, transferring, washing, spooning, using soapy water into different sized containers and water painting on slates/Blackboards.

Gardening, digging, and connecting dots can help children develop fine motor skills. And let them eat on their own with fork/spoon or with their fingers. Children who pick up food with their fingers /spoons develop gripping skills, which an essential for holding a crayon. Children can play with blocks, puzzles, pop beads, etc. Be careful with beads as they might swallow beads if they play with them alone.
At Medhaam daycare and preschool, we're all about your kid's development, and we are using all the skills we have to build him up. The progress and success of your child is our top priority. Our job is to ensure the safety and happiness of your children.
