Things you must know as a parent about Vitamin D
Vitamin D is one of the six vitamins that are required by the human body for normal growth and development. The other five vitamins are vitamins A, C, B, E, and K.

Vitamin D is very important for the growth of bones and teeth in the human body by trapping in calcium and magnesium. It increases the bone density making the bones strong and less fragile. During childhood, the bone formation as well as the teeth formation are on their peak. So, it’s recommended for children to get maximum of Vitamin D during this period. Modern parents often rely on calcium supplements for their kids’ bone development. This includes calcium-rich flavoured drinks, calcium-rich flour etc. But they aren’t aware of the fact that without hitting his/her daily vitamin D intake, he/she may not utilise, or trap enough calcium required for adequate development of bones and teeth.

Along the same lines, the muscles of your children are a major beneficiary of Vitamin D. Vitamin D strengthens the muscles, increases muscular flexibility, and keeps muscle fatigue, which is simply getting tired because of muscular exertion during some physicalactivity, at bay. Because of this, your kid will remain energised and won’t backout from participating in a game or some fun physical activity. It has been found by the National Institutes of Health that Vitamin D elevates your child’s overall growth by manifolds. Wonderful, no? Let’s see how you can make your kids get sufficient vitamin D when they are not in their preschool.

Ways to get Vitamin D
Your children can get Vitamin D from majorly two sources – Sun and food.
We all know that Sun is the ultimate source of power and rejuvenation. In addition to that, it is a lucrative source of Vitamin D. Hence, it is important to make your kids undergo a sun-bathing session. You can try to take your kids out to the park and play with them or take them for a picnic on a bright sunny afternoon.
Your kids can also get Vitamin D from a variety of food sources. These include seafood especially fish, milk, orange juice, yogurt and to name a few. It is important to first glance at the nutrients table given on all edible products before letting your child gobble it down.

How to prevent skin damage of your children?
Many a times, sitting in the sun for long can be detrimental for the soft skin of your child. This is because sun rays apart from the very beneficial vitamin D, also comprise of the very menacing ultraviolet or UV radiation. Your child can develop sunburn, rashes, blisters, and other skin ailments. So, how can a parent ensure that their child is getting adequate amount of vitamin D without getting their skin damaged?
